Where Young Business Professionals Connect!

One of the key issues facing our business community is the looming labour shortage. Retaining our young, brightest and best business professionals here in PEI is critically important to our future. In addition to the right career opportunity, these young professionals need their own network of peers, their own “community”.

In order to better understand the types of networking events and activities these young professionals are looking for, the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce held a series of focus groups. The key findings from the focus groups suggest that:

- They are Time Crunched
- “Return on Time Investment” is Key
- They want to Build a Network within their Peer Group
- They are Tech Savvy and use Social Media to Communicate

To address the unique networking needs of these young business professionals, the Chamber and sponsor Atlantic Communications launched “Business Under Forty” Committee focused on:

- “Business Under Forty” Networking mixers every other month
- “Business Under Forty” Lunch & Learns
- “Business Under Forty” will be volunteer-driven by young professionals
- Social Media will be utilized to promote “Business Under Forty” events
- Participant research will determine the type and timing of future events
