Chamber Holds Roundtable Meeting on Retaining Federal Employment Levels on PEI

Representatives of the Chamber’s Policy Committee recently held a roundtable meeting with a cross-section of the Chamber membership on the issue of federal employment cuts in PEI.  The purpose of the meeting was to receive an update on the current situation regarding federal employment on the Island; to hear the thoughts and concerns from chamber members representing a variety of sectors within the membership; and to identify next steps for the Chamber.

The Chamber will continue to be active on this issue.  The Chamber is involved in the ‘coalition’ recently established by Mayor Lee to lobby the federal government to retain our fair share of federal jobs in the capital region.  The Chamber’s Executive is meeting with Minister Gail Shea in early December to discuss concerns regarding the pending cuts. The Chamber is also collaborating with other Chambers in Atlantic Canada to establish a strong regional lobby of our federal politicians on the issue of federal employment levels in the region.
