Chamber Welcomes Minister Valcourt

The Chamber was pleased to host a reception for the Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, during his visit to PEI last week.

Minister Valcourt addressed Chamber members about the economic opportunities for PEI and in the Atlantic region in the coming years. He assured the audience that ACOA will continue to invest in targeted initiatives that help to create jobs and generate economic growth. While on PEI the Minister announced funding for the Atlantic Canada Cruise Association of $350, 000 for the continued implementation of an industry-wide marketing strategy and its related activities through to 2014.

Chamber Meets with Minister Shea

Representatives of the Chamber’s Board of Directors met with Honourable Gail Shea prior to the Christmas holidays to discuss concerns related to federal employment levels on PEI and the impact of proposed reductions on the Island economy.

The Chamber referenced the need for continued support of export development for Island businesses and commended the excellent work of Trade Team PEI.

The Chamber also spoke to the importance of continued investment in innovation through programs such as the Atlantic Innovation Fund.

PEI Connectors –Connecting New Islanders for Business Success!

The PEI Connectors Program helps new Islanders who want to start, buy or invest in a business on Prince Edward Island by introducing them to the local business community. Any new Islander with an interest in getting into business on Prince Edward Island is welcome to participate.

PEI Connectors is an initiative of the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce and the PEI Population Secretariat. The program is capably administered by Don MacCormac, with support from Mandarin speaking program liaison, Lannia Pan MacAleer. Currently 47 clients (connectees) including 37 entrepreneurs and 10 international students are registered in the program.
