The first release of 5,000 Canada’s Food Island gift cards have sold out at Mel’s Convenience and Murphy’s Pharmacy locations across Prince Edward Island and Co-op stores in Tignish, O’Leary and Souris after less than a week of sales. “We are so proud to have such an incredible response from all Islanders by supporting the Canada’s Food Island gift card program. Now is the time Islanders to get out and rediscover Canada’s Food Island with your gift cards!” said Mitch Cobb, Chair of Food Island Partnership
Canada’s Food Island gift cards will be re-stocked at the end of October and will continue to be sold at a twenty per cent discount while supplies last. Another announcement will be made when the gift cards will go back on sale at Mel’s Convenience, Murphy’s Pharmacy and Co-op locations in Tignish, O’Leary and Souris.
The Canada’s Food Island gift card is a two-year program that aims to encourage Islanders and visitors to buy and spend locally at participating Island merchants. The gift card is redeemable at restaurants, food markets, golf courses and local retail shops Island-wide. Some accommodation operators on P.E.I. have also created their own ‘Stay & Savour,’ packages which include Canada’s Food Island gift cards. These packages were available beginning September 4 and the packaging promotion will run until October 31, 2020.
“The Canada’s Food Island gift card program was developed to ensure that Islander’s continued to support local through this difficult time. It’s never been more important to support our Island businesses than it is right now!” said Mitch Cobb, Chair of Food Island Partnership.
Consumers are already using their Canada’s Food Island gift cards. As of Monday, October 5, over $20,000 has been spent in gift cards at local businesses. On average, consumers using the Canada’s Food Island gift card have been spending twenty four per cent more than the balance of the card at these establishments. The gift card is easy to use and ensures your money is being injected back into the Island economy.
